2018/19 – Official Ending Figures

  • UNICA published the final report of 2018/19 season;
  • Cane crushed totalled 573mmt and sugar production 26.5mmt – the lowest sugar output in 10 years;
  • In the 2H of March, there were 73 mills in operation and another 103 should begin crushing in 1H of April;

Late rains

Summary of CS Crop Figures

  • The fall in cane crush did not occur as many were expecting;
  • Early spring rains were responsible for reverting some of the damaged caused by the dry spell registered in the 2Q’18;
  • Cane harvested in the last part of the season fared better, thus allowing for the total crush to end over 570mmt;

CS Historical Agricultural Yields (tc/ha)

  • Parana and Sao Paulo state were the ones presenting the highest falls in TCH (ag. yields), over 4%;
  • Overall, ag. yields averaged 73.1tc/ha – the lowest since 2011/12;

 Ethanol all in

  • Right from the start we were expecting a max ethanol season;
  • However, how far the industry could push was uncertain;

CS Sugar Mix

  • Each fortnight daily ethanol production records were achieved, surprising even the millers;
  • But it was not without strain;
  • In order to achieve a higher flexibility, crush pace had to diminish affecting efficiency;
  • Logistical constrains were also encountered, due to the lack of tank space at the peak of the season;
  • Nonetheless, something was proven: the CS region has the capacity to produce over 30bi litres of ethanol, achieving a volume only expected for 2024 according to Renovabio’s production targets;
