In mixed early trading Oct’26 continued to flirt with the 18.00 area, dropping back to 17.91 though remaining a good distance clear of yesterdays lower levels. Little changed across the next couple of hours, but by the later morning some spec buying started to reappear and take prices higher having been encouraged by the consolidation. The price reached the 18.40’s before stalling, and though some traders looked to take profits during the early afternoon the sentiment remained solid, and the market quickly recovered to within a point of the 18.48 high. Though short side pricing was lesser while we sit shy of the recent highs, so too was the buying as larger funds held back, and this recovery faded away with some heavier position liquidation taking place and sending the price back down into the range for a second time. This shattered confidence from the smaller specs and the market slipped back to 18.00 later in the session, though it was again able to resist falling through that level and closed unchanged at 18.07. The market now enjoys an extended 3-day weekend, with the index roll waiting for us when we return on Tuesday.

Dec’26 slipped back to $519.70 initially, however there was no concerted selling effort taking place and as things started to settle down so the price moved back towards overnight levels. The lack of resting orders allows the market to move with some freedom at present and through the later morning Dec’26 moved back upward to $532.00, keeping the general mood positive despite simply sitting within yesterday’s parameters. The market remained broadly firm through the middle part of the day, the only exception being as and when day traders looked to close longs and spiked the market back down. Alongside there was some strong volume changing hands for both Oct/Dec’26 and Dec’26/March’27, and in both instances, it was the sell side that drove activity with Oct/Dec’26 dropping back to -$2.60 and Dec’26/March’27 slipping to -$5.90. This negative leaning was also filtering into the outright market with Dec’26 easing back towards overnight levels by the last hour, though with an inside day now firmly established there were no fireworks. The close arrived with a small gain still in place for Dec’26 and it settled at $525.40 while Oct’26 provided the lone red for the board with a lower valuation at $523.10.
