The market found supportive buying from the word go and climbed back ahead to 18.40 during the first 20 minutes but then began to stall once faced with a little more scale selling. Funds have proved to have a more reduced appetite for buying over recent sessions as highlighted by a more modest increase in their net long to 132,496 lots across the most recent reporting period, and though another push to 18.45 followed the buying faded away without challenging into last weeks highs. Instead, long liquidation followed from the day traders and the price moved back to be trading beneath opening levels later in the morning and continuing down to 17.91 before looking to repeat Friday’s action and consolidate the 18.00 area. With the index roll now underway it was left to the spread to provide most of the afternoon volumes, pushing Oct’26/March’27 back to -1.03 points on the relentless volume which eventually reached around 90,000 lots. Oct’26 meanwhile continued either side of 18.00, but aside from a marginal new daily low at 17.89 provided nothing noteworthy. The price edged up away from 18.00 later in the afternoon to a settlement level at 18.10, bring down the curtain on an uneventful day.

Dec’26 was immediately more buoyant than it had been yesterday and moved through $530.00 on the call, and following a brief pullback proceeded to move further ahead to $532.50 soon afterwards. Buying looked to be primarily spec driven and with no continuation interest from other sectors the market slumped to the mid-$520’s later in the morning, which provided a more negative slant and discouraged the specs from adding to their efforts. A stalemate then ensued as we moved into the afternoon and across several slow hours the price was confined to a narrow $521.60 / $525.60 band, occasional pricing interest from both sides having no impact upon direction. The only movement was emerging from the Oct/Dec’26 spread where another solid day of pre-expiry rolling volume sent the value back from $2.90 to -$4.50, in turn placing the spot at a defecit while the rest of the board held near to overnight levels. There was no change to the pattern through the later stages and Dec’26 reached the close at $523.80, leaving parameters unmoved.
