Chart of the Fortnight: Thai Cane Yields Stay Low Next Season

  • Thailand is in for another dry year following its disastrous 2019 cane crop.
  • This means cane yields won’t improve by much this year.
  • Rainfall is below average, and the cane is suffering as a result.
  • Without an increase, Thailand’s cane availability will reduce.
  • We currently think Thailand will produce just over half of what they did in the 2017/18 season, at 7.5m tonnes of sugar.
