India’s Oil Demand Ceiling Miles Away Despite Energy Transition

According to Nayara Energy’s CEO, India is unlikely to see its oil products demand hitting the ceiling at least until 2035, although the energy transition process will create opportunities for the electric vehicle charging space and biofuels in the coming years. India’s fuel ethanol consumption is expected to reach nearly 3 billion liters in 2022 and 3.2 billion liters in 2023, up from an estimated 2.7 billion liters in 2021. That would equate to an ethanol blending rate of roughly 6.1% and displace 30,973 b/d of fossil fuels.

Uttar Pradesh to Begin Ethanol Production from Cane from October

Algeria Bought 500,000 to 550,000 Milling Wheat in Tender

U.N. Tenders For 200,000 Tonnes Wheat for Ethiopia

A United Nations agency has issued an international tender to purchase about 200,000 tonnes of milling wheat on behalf of the Ethiopian government. The deadline for submission of price offers in the tender is Oct. 8. Four 50,000 tonne consignments are sought, with deliveries to be made to a series of inland destinations in Ethiopia. Delivery is required 90 days after contract signing or earlier if possible.

Kazakh Entrepreneurs Promote Eco-Friendly Recycling Strategies to Tackle Problem of Plastic

Texas A&M Researchers Receive $2 Million Grant to Develop More Efficient Plastic Waste Strategy

Researchers at Texas A&M have been given a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to create a more efficient strategy to deal with plastic waste. The team will use a collection of bacteria and fungi to degrade certain types of plastics. These microorganisms already occur in nature, but they degrade plastics naturally at an extremely slow rate. The research aims to find the optimal combination of these plastic-degrading microbes to make the process more efficient.

From Recycling to Upcycling: A Smarter Way of Dealing with Plastic

Globally only about 20% of waste plastics are recycled. Boosting that figure remains a challenge as recycling plastic cleanly can be expensive and usually produces lower-value products, often making it financially unviable. A new method from researchers at RMIT University can produce high-value products from plastic – carbon nanotubes and clean liquid fuel – while simultaneously upcycling agricultural and organic waste. Kalpit Shah, a Lead researcher Associate, says that this new approach could deliver significant financial and environmental benefits.
