Sugar Production

Russia is one of the world’s largest sugar consumers, and is also a major beet grower.

undefined

In recent years beet sugar production has increased following government support to reduce dependence on imports.

It now produces surplus sugar which it exports, primarily to neighbouring countries in the Eurasian Economic Union.

World market sugar exports are hampered by the limited ability to load containers at Russia’s ports.

Russia’s sugar consumption per capita is one of the highest in the world, at around 40kg/person/year.
